Resveratrol Supplements

Because resveratrol is available in a nutritional supplement form, it is indeed something worthy to be scientifically studied for possible therapeutic and antioxidant benefits.

There are already some proven health benefits in taking resveratrol supplements. For now, extremely high doses (3–5 g) of resveratrol in a proprietary formulation have been necessary to significantly lower blood sugar. This has been studied in human cases. Scientists believe resveratrol to be the reason behind the low incidence of cardiovascular disease in wine-drinking southern European countries. Resveratrol might be the key ingredient in red wine that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces "bad" cholesterol and prevents blood clots. Wine does contain resveratrol, but to get the maximum health benefit, an individual might have to ingest a potentially unhealthy amount of wine. Therefore, resveratrol supplements were developed.

Red wine should be consumed in moderation (an average of two drinks a day for men and one drink a day for women). If you are a non-drinker, or if you want to get the maximum benefit of resveratrol, supplements may be the best choice for you.
